Using mouthwash at the right time enhances your oral hygiene routine. The best time to use mouthwash depends on your needs and the type of mouthwash you’re using. For daily oral care, use it after brushing and flossing to remove leftover debris and freshen your breath. If your mouthwash contains fluoride, it’s better to use it after brushing but avoid rinsing with water afterward to allow the fluoride to protect your teeth. For therapeutic mouthwashes prescribed by dentists, follow specific instructions for maximum effectiveness. Avoid using mouthwash immediately after brushing if it contains alcohol, as it might wash away beneficial fluoride from toothpaste. Using mouthwash before bed is also ideal to keep bacteria at bay overnight. Remember, mouthwash complements brushing and flossing but doesn’t replace them for maintaining optimal oral health.
